Mucor racemosus

The grape-like head mold ( Mucor racemosus ) is a species of the genus Mucor. It occurs in soil, horse manure and rotting fruit. In the effluents from breweries, the nature of mass develops and forms of bricks and wood fur and tuft -like growths.

Features

The hyphae are 10 to 50 microns wide, have no cross walls and are highly branched. They are divided into Hauptstämmchen with rootlets and many side branches. At the tips of the hyphae are spherical oidia abgegliedert. In the hyphae are numerous chlamydospores, which are cylindrical and thick-walled. In nutrient- rich waters of the hyphae can decay in later similar to yeast sprouting gems. Chlamydospores, oidia and gems are used for propagation, since the type does not form sporangia and spores in the water.
