Mud (Band)

Mud ( to German: dirt, mud ) was a British glam- rock band of the 1970s.

Band History

The group was founded in 1966 in Carshalton in the English county of Surrey by school friends Les Gray, Dave Mount, Ray Stiles and Rob Davis. First, she was one of many third-rate, low-paying club British bands until in 1972 the record company, RAK Records by Mickie Most got a contract.

The producers Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman ( Chinnichap ) built more than Mud Glamrockband in addition to their other successful products like The Sweet and Suzi Quatro around the same time and Smokie.

Rock and stomp numbers like Crazy, Dyna -Mite, Tiger Feet, The Cat Crept In, Rocket and Buddy Holly Oh Boy Cover stormed the European charts. Between 1973 and 1976 Mud placed eleven titles in the British Top Ten in Germany achieved this success five times. Less well known is their version of Glenn Miller's In the Mood, which is published in 1974 under the name " DUM " as a single.

After the cooperation with RAK and the duo Chinn / Chapman mid-1975 ended (last original single on RAK was One Night ), the group was among others still at Private Stock Records (from L' L'Lucy ), RCA Records and Carrere contract. As a further successes forthcoming, the band broke up in 1980.

Guitarist Rob Davis later joined as co- author of hits like Groovejet ( If This Is not Love ) ( Spiller, 2000) or Can not Get You out of My Head ( Kylie Minogue, 2001) in appearance.

Singer Les Gray died in February 2004 of a heart attack after he was diagnosed with cancer.

Bassist Ray Stiles is a member of the Hollies since 1986.

In December 2006, drummer Dave Mount died.
