Mueang Chiang Mai District

Amphoe Mueang Chiang Mai ( in Thai: อำเภอ เมือง เชียงใหม่ ) is a district ( Amphoe ) in the central part of the province of Chiang Mai in northern Thailand. It includes the provincial capital of Chiang Mai.

Geography

Neighboring districts are (from north clockwise): Amphoe Mae Rim, the, San Sai, San Kamphaeng, Saraphi and Hang Dong Province Chiang Mai.

The largest river in the district is the Maenam Ping ( Ping River ).

History

The area of Mueang Chiang Mai was the center of the Kingdom of Lan Na.

The Thai government established the district Mueang Chiang Mai in 1899. The first district office was opened in 1929 on the west side of the old city hall of Chiang Mai. In August 1989, a new district office was opened.

Education

In Amphoe Mueang Chiang Mai is the main campus of the University of Chiang Mai, as well as the Rajabhat University Chiang Mai.

Traffic

In this district is the Chiang Mai International Airport.

Management

The circle is divided into 16 subdistricts (tambon ), which are further subdivided into 78 villages ( Muban ).

The capital of Chiang Mai ( Thai: เทศบาล นคร เชียงใหม่ ) is considered large city ( thesaban Nakhon ) and consists of the Tambon Si Phum Phra Sing, Haiya, Chiang Moi, Chang Khlan, Wat Ket and Pa Tan, as well as parts of the tambon Chang Phueak, Suthep, Pa Daet, Nong Hoi, Tha Sala, Nong Pa khrang and Fa Ham.

In addition, there are eight small towns ( thesaban tambon) in the district:

  • Phueak Chang ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล ช้างเผือก ) consists of parts of the tambon same name,
  • Nong Pa khrang ( Thai: ) also consists of parts of the tambon Nong Pa khrang,
  • Mae Hia ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล แม่ เหี ยะ ) consists of all the same Tambon.
  • Tha Sala ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล ท่าศาลา ) also consists of the same whole tambon.
  • Suthep ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล สุ เทพ ) also consists of parts of the Tambon Suthep,
  • Pa Daet ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล ป่าแดด ) also consists of parts of the tambon Pa Daet,
  • Nong Hoi ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล หนอง หอย ) also consists of parts of the tambon Nong Hoi,
  • Fa Ham ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล ฟ้า ฮ่า ม ) also consists of parts of the Tambon Fa Ham.

There are also two " Tambon Administrative Organizations" ( TAO - administrative units ).
