Mueang Chonburi District
Amphoe Mueang Chonburi ( Thai: อำเภอ เมือง ชลบุรี ) is a district ( Amphoe ) in the province of Chonburi. The Chonburi province is located in the eastern region of central Thailand. The capital of the province of Chonburi is also called Chonburi.
Geography
Neighboring districts are (from north clockwise): Amphoe Bang Pakong the province of Chachoengsao and Amphoe Phan Thong, Ban Bueng and Si Racha Chonburi province. To the west lies the Gulf of Thailand.
History
Chonburi was founded in the 14th century as part of the extension of the kingdom of Ayutthaya.
King Chulalongkorn ( Rama V ) made Chonburi end of the 19th century the capital of the province, which then consisted of three major towns.
Since 1935, Chonburi has the administrative status of a city ( Mueang thesaban ).
Education
In Amphoe Mueang Chonburi is the main campus of Burapha University.
Management
The district Mueang Chonburi in 18 subdistricts (tambon ) divided, in turn, in 107 communities ( Muban ) are divided.
There are four cities ( Mueang thesaban ) in the district:
- Chonburi ( Thai: เทศบาล เมือง ชลบุรี )
- Saen Suk ( Thai: เทศบาล เมือง แสนสุข )
- Ban Suan ( Thai: เทศบาล เมือง บ้าน สวน ) and
- Ang Sila ( Thai: เทศบาล เมือง อ่าง ศิลา ).
In addition, there are seven small towns ( Tambon thesaban ):
- Khlong Tamru ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล คลอง ตำ ห รุ )
- Bang Sai ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล บาง ทราย )
- Na Pa ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล นา ป่า )
- Don Hua Lo ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล ดอน หัว ฬ่ อ )
- Nong Mai Daeng ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล หนอง ไม้แดง )
- Huai Kapi ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล ห้วย กะปิ ) and
- Samet ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล เสม็ด ).
There are also five - Tambon administrative organizations ( " Tambon Administrative Organizations" - TAO, Thai: องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล ) in the district.
