Mueang Khon Kaen District

Amphoe Mueang Khon Kaen ( Thai: อำเภอ เมือง ขอนแก่น ) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district ) in the province of Khon Kaen. The Khon Kaen Province is located in the northeast region of Thailand, Isan. The capital of the province of Khon Kaen Khon Kaen is also called.

Geography

Neighboring districts (from the south clockwise): Amphoe Ban the Haet, Phra Yuen, Ban Fang, Ubol Ratana, Nam Phong and Sam Sung province of Khon Kaen, and Amphoe Kosum Phisai and Chiang Yuen Maha Sarakham Province.

History

In 1917 the district of Mueang Phra Lap ( พระ ลับ ) was renamed in 1937 in Mueang Khon Kaen.

Education

In Amphoe Mueang Khon Kaen is the University of Khon Kaen.

Traffic

In this district is the Khon Kaen Airport.

Management

The district ( Amphoe ) Mueang Khon Kaen is divided into 17 communes ( tambon), which further into 236 villages ( Muban ) are divided.

The large ( thesaban Nakhon ) Khon Kaen ( Thai: เทศบาล นคร ขอนแก่น ) Tambon Nai Mueang covers the whole.

There are also nine small towns ( thesaban tambon) in the district:

• Tha Phra ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล ท่าพระ ) consists of parts of the tambon Tha Phra,
• Ban Pet ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล บ้าน เป็ด ) consists of parts of tambon Ban Pet,
• Sa Wa Thi ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล สา วะ ถี ) consists of parts of the tambon Sa Wa Thi
• Ban Kho ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล บ้าน ค้อ ) consists of parts of tambon Ban Kho,
• Mueang Kao ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล เมือง เก่า ) consists of parts of the tambon Mueang Kao,
• Ban Thum ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล บ้าน ทุ่ม ) consists of parts of tambon Ban Thum,
• Nong Tum ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล หนอง ตูม ) consists of parts of the tambon Nong Tum,
• Non Thon ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล โนน ท่อน ) consists of parts of the tambon Non Thon,
• Samran ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล สำราญ ) consists of parts of the tambon Samran.

In addition, there are nine - Tambon administrative organizations ( " Tambon Administrative Organizations" - TAO, Thai: องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล ) in the district.
