Mueang Phuket District

Amphoe Mueang Phuket ( Thai อำเภอ เมือง ภูเก็ต ) is the administrative district ( Amphoe ) around the city of Phuket, it is in the northwest of the circle.

Geography

The district lies in the southern part of Phuket Island. Along the western and southern coast some more or less touristy beaches, from the north- west: Karon, Kata, Kata Noi, Nai Harn, Rawai and Friendship Beach on Chalong Bay. The beaches are separated by rocky headlands, of which the Cape Promthep ( Promthep Cape) is the most beautiful and most photographed in the southernmost point of the island. Thai tourists visit the headland like to watch the sunset.

History

The county was originally named Thung Kha ( ทุ่ง คา ), but was renamed on 14 November 1938 and now bears the same name as the province.

Attractions

Buddhist Temples

The most important of the 29 Buddhist temples ( Wat ) of Phuket is Wat Chalong ( วัด ฉลอง, วัด ไชย ธารา ราม ). He is two highly venerable monks - Luang Pho Chaem ( หลวง พ่อ แช่ม ) and Luang Pho Chuang ( หลวง พ่อ ช่วง ) - dedicated, who helped with their knowledge of the Thai herbal medicine people who were 1876 injured during a rebellion of the workers in the tin mines.

Management

The district has eight subdistricts ( tambon), which in turn in 44 village communities ( Muban ) are divided.

The city of Phuket ( Thai: เทศบาล นคร ภูเก็ต ) has a big-city status ( thesaban Nakhon ), it extends over Tambon Talad Yai and Talad the Nuea.

There are four small towns ( thesaban tambon) in the district:

  • Wichit ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล วิชิต ) consists of the whole tambon Wichit.

There is to manage the non-urban areas in addition two Tambon Administration Organizations ( " Tambon Administrative Organizations" - TAO, Thai: องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล ).
