Economy and Environment

The Tambon west of the city of Rayong 's Map Ta Phut location was reported by the Thai government in the development plan for the East Coast region since the 1970s, as the center of the petrochemical and heavy industry in the country. In addition, a deep-water port was created. By 2006, over 100 factories have settled in the former fishing village. These often produce hazardous waste that is not disposed of properly in many cases. Industrial accidents and air pollution impact on the environment and the health of the population in the region strong.
