Mueang Songkhla District

Amphoe Mueang Songkhla ( Thai: อำเภอ เมือง สงขลา ) is a district ( Amphoe ) in the province of Songkhla. The Songkhla province is located in the southern region of Thailand. The provincial capital is also called Songkhla Songkhla.

Geography

Neighboring districts (from the south clockwise): Amphoe Chana, the, Na Mom, Hat Yai and Songkhla Singhanakhon the province. To the east is the Gulf of Thailand.

History

Songkhla is one of the oldest cities in Thailand, for centuries, it is an important commercial city.

Throughout its history, the location of the city has been postponed several times. In Khao Daeng Hua you can still recognize the old city fortifications. As in the 17th century, the local prince rebelled against Ayutthaya, the city was later destroyed by King Taksin and rebuilt at Laem song.

At the beginning of the Pacific War Songkhla was one of the main landing places of the Japanese conquest of the Malay Peninsula. They landed at dawn on December 8, 1941 without significant resistance and their troops marched from here to the south before.

Education

In Songkhla is the main campus of Thaksin University and Rajabhat University, Songkhla.

Management

Amphoe Mueang Songkhla is ( tambon) divided into six municipalities that continue in 46 villages ( Muban ) are divided.

The large ( thesaban Nakhon ) Songkhla ( เทศบาล นคร สงขลา ) covers the whole tambon Bo Yang.

The city ( Mueang thesaban ) Khao Rup Chang ( เทศบาล เมือง เขา รูป ช้าง ) Tambon Khao Rup covers the entire Chang.

There are also two small towns ( thesaban tambon) in the district:

  • Phawong ( เทศบาล ตำบล พะวง ), consisting of the whole tambon Phawong,
  • Ko Taeo ( เทศบาล ตำบล เกาะ แต้ว ), consisting of the whole tambon Ko Taeo.

There are also five " Tambon Administrative Organizations" ( TAO - administrative units ).
