Mufi Hannemann

Muliufi Francis " Mufi " Hannemann (* July 16, 1954 in Honolulu, Hawaii ) is an American politician (Democratic Party) and former Mayor of Honolulu and the county of the same name.

Hannemann was born in 1954, the sixth of seven children of Gustav and Faiaso Hannemann. He studied at Harvard University and at the Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand. After his return to Hawaii, where he was active in Iolani as a teacher. In 1986, he tried to get elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, but was defeated his Republican rival Pat Saiki. On his next attempt, he was defeated in the primaries already its a contestant Patsy Mink.

1994 Hannemann was in the City Council of Honolulu ( Honolulu City Council ), and re-elected in 1998. 1998 to 1999 was chairman of the city council. In 2000 he left to run for the office of mayor of the city council, but was defeated by incumbent Jeremy Harris. Only in 2004 succeeded Hannemann, to be elected Mayor of Honolulu and the county of the same name.

On 20 July 2010 Hannemann resigned from the post to run for the successor to the incumbent Governor Linda Lingle. However, he failed in September 2010 in the primaries of the Democratic Party at its challenger Neil Abercrombie, who went on to win in the gubernatorial election to Republican James " Duke" Aiona. In 2012 he was defeated in the primary for the Democratic candidate for the seat for the 2nd electoral district in the U.S. House of Representatives his Tulsi Gabbard a contestant.

Hannemann is married.
