Al - Muharraq (Arabic المحرق, DMG al - Muharraq ) is a port city in Bahrain and one of the five provinces of the state. For the census on 27 April 2010, the city had a population of 189 114. Ten years ago there were only 104 922. The metropolitan area ( province ) covers 57.46 km ². The city is located northeast of the capital Manama on the eponymous island with its smaller islands. There is a causeway leading from Muharraq to the main island. The Bahrain International Airport is located in the city.
