Al - Muharraq (Arabic المحرق, DMG al - Muharraq ) is a port city in Bahrain and one of the five provinces of the state. For the census on 27 April 2010, the city had a population of 189 114. Ten years ago there were only 104 922. The metropolitan area ( province ) covers 57.46 km ². The city is located northeast of the capital Manama on the eponymous island with its smaller islands. There is a causeway leading from Muharraq to the main island. The Bahrain International Airport is located in the city.
The formerly independent city of Al Hidd in the southeast of the island since July 3, 2002, when the ten municipalities were replaced by five Gouvernemente, a district of al - Muharraq. More neighborhoods are
