Muhos

Muhos [ muhɔs ] is a municipality in the north of Finland. It is located about 35 km southeast of the city of Oulu in Northern Ostrobothnia landscape. Muhos is exclusively Finnish speakers.

Overview

The community was founded in 1865 and next to the Kirchdorf Muhos includes the villages Hyrkäs, Kurkiperä, Kylmälänkylä, Laaji, Laitasaari, Laukka, Leppiniemi, Montta, Muhosperä, Mökkikylä, Petäikkö, Pyhänsivu, Päivärinne, Pälli, Rautionkylä, Rova, Sanginjoki, Soso, Suokylä, Tuppu and Tuuru. The settlement is focused along the river Oulujoki, which flows through the municipal area in a wide arc in east-west direction.

Built in 1634 wooden church of Muhos is one of the oldest in Finland.

Muhos the birthplace of the beauty queen Armi Kuusela 's (* 1934), which in 1952 named the first Miss Universe and the wrestler Kalle Anttila ( 1887-1975 ).

Parish council

How widespread in northern Finland, the Centre Party is in Muhos the strongest political force. It does not present, in contrast to many other communities in Northern Ostrobothnia, however, the absolute majority in the municipal council. At the municipal election in 2012, she received despite losses over 40% of the vote and 15 of the 35 deputies. The other two major parties of the country, the conservative National Coalition Party and the Social Democrats play a subordinate role with four and three seats in the municipal council.
