Muirfield
Muirfield is one of the regular host places the British Open and also the home of The Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers. The course is located in the village of Gullane, East Lothian, Scotland, and offers a view of the ostschottischen Firth of Forth.
In addition to the previous 16 -fold host the British Open Muirfield also hosted the British Amateur Championship and 1973 Ryder Cup, the Walker Cup in 1959 and 1979 as well as 1952 and 1984, the Curtis Cup.
Unlike other links courses in the course does not run directly on the sea, but takes place in two opposite loops extending along a hill. Therefore no more than 3 consecutive holes run in the same direction, which leads to permanent change of wind direction with respect to the direction of play.
The Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers
The Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers, now based at Muirfield, is considered one of the oldest organized golf club in the world. 1744 was written down with the 13 rules of play for the first regulations for the discharge of a Golftuniers. This first competition was still carried out on the so-called Leith Links Course near Edinburgh and won by John Rattray, the then was bestowed the honor of the first club captain. 1836 the first move to Musselburgh, where the new 9- hole course Musselburgh Old Course is a public golf course was created, but later the growing demands of golfers no longer met and had become too small. 1891 built the club to host the Open Championship a new 18 - hole course.
