Mukhran Vakhtangadze

Muchran Wachtangadse ( born January 22, 1973 in Batumi, Adjara province, Georgia) is a former Georgian wrestler. He won at the Olympics in Sydney in 2000 and a bronze medal in 2001 world champions, each in Greco-Roman wrestling in the middleweight division

Career

Muchran Wachtangadse began in 1985 at the age of twelve years with the rings. He concentrated on the Greco-Roman wrestling and was a member of the sports club Dynamo Batumi. His coaches were mainly Chodersi Bolkwadse and Dschoni Rechwiaschwili. During his career, he studied sports wrestler and was after finishing his career Ringer director of a sports school in Batumi. In his spare time he is also a songwriter and occurs as a singer.

His first international championship he played in 1994, after he was this year for the first time become Georgian middleweight champion. But at the European Championships in 1994 in Athens, he was eliminated very early and finished only 19th place. In the following years he took from a 3rd place at the Universities World Cup in Ankara aside, at the international championships no front seats. Only at the 2000 European Championships in Moscow, he reached in the middleweight division, which was won by Martin Lidberg of Sweden, with a 6th place a single-digit result. All the more surprising was then his performance in the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney. He was there greatly improved and won with victories over Toomas Proovel from Estonia, Raatbek Sanatbajew from Kyrgyzstan, Valery Zilenz from Belarus, a defeat against Hamza Yerlikaya from Turkey and a win over Fritz Aanes from Norway quite surprisingly a bronze medal in the middleweight division.

In 2001 he first came in 6th place at the European Championships in Moscow. At the World Championships this year in Patras, Greece, he surprised then all competitors and was with wins over Attila Batky from Slovakia, Dimitar Stoyanov Nikolov, Bulgaria, Martin Lidberg, Alexander Daragan, Ukraine and Matt Lindland James from the United States champion.

In 2002 he participated only in the World Championships in Moscow, where he landed after victories over Bardosi Sandor from Hungary and Dimitrios Avramis from Greece and one defeat against Mohamad Abd El Fatah of Egypt on the 9th Place. In the 2003 European Championship in Belgrade, but he fought his way with victories over Gotcha Ziziaschwili, Israel, Kosta Kostanjevic, Croatia, Nazmi Avluca, Turkey and Valeri Zilenz a bronze medal, after losing in the semifinals against Levon Geghamjan from Armenia. That was the last medal he won at an international championship. However Remarkable was also his 6th place finish at the 2003 World Cup in Creteil, he, won with victories over Wadislaw Metodiew, Bulgaria, Fred de Vos, the Netherlands and Melonin Noumonvi from France, at a loss to Attila Batky.

In 2004 he started at the Olympic Games in Athens. He arrived there after a defeat against Mohamed Abd El Fatah and a win over Bradley Vering from the United States only to 18th place. Similarly, he finally cut off at the 2005 World Championships in Budapest, where he lost to Zeidvand Reza from Iran and came only to 19th place. Then he ended his international career Ringer.
