Mukurob

The Mukurob ( in Nama Mûgorob for "Finger of God") was a rock formation near the National Road B1 at Asab in southern Namibia, whose collapse was announced on 8 December 1988. Geological researches on rocks on 7 December 1988 overturned. The rock is estimated at an age of 50,000 years.

According to a legend, but may have arisen only after the independence of Namibia, should - and the Mukarob collapses - "God, the dominion of the white man [on South West Africa ] can quit ."

However, the probable reason for the collapse was the increasing erosion of the existing material of lower strength base, which eventually could no longer bear the applied load of about 450 tons "Fingers ". A triggering factor was possibly an earthquake of magnitude 6.9 in the west of Armenia on December 7, 1988.
