Mull of Galloway

The Mull of Galloway ( schott Gaelic Maol nan Gall, " Bare hill of strangers ") is the southern cape of the Rhins of Galloway Peninsula in the unitary authority Dumfries and Galloway and thus the most southern point of Scotland.

The east and west coasts differ in appearance enormous: while the west coast is a rocky cliff, the land falls towards the east from where it forms flat beaches. This makes the region also interesting for tourists. The tourism industry is now positioned to agriculture the second largest employer in the region.

Since 1830, there is a 26 meter high lighthouse on the cape, which is now used as a museum, but is still in operation. The area around the tower is a national park, is protected in the numerous animal and plant species.
