Müller-Lyer illusion

The Müller- Lyer illusion, Müller- Lyer illusion as well, is a very well known geometrical- optical illusion. It was discovered in 1889 by the German psychiatrist and sociologist Franz Müller- Lyer ( 1857-1916 ).

The phenomenon is a line between two acute angles appears significantly shorter than the same length of line, in which the arrow points are reversed. For this deception still exists no consensus explanation.

  • An explanation justified the phenomenon with the Emmert 's law.
  • A lack of coordination between the brain and eyes constitutes a further explanation for the deception
  • Another explanation is that the constructs be interpreted as a spatial unconsciously objects, such as a bulged or constricted vessel, wherein the center lines are unconsciously approximately the length of the upper and lower edges.
