Multiplex (TV)

In digital television, video, audio and data streams over the feeder network, ie cable, satellite or radio are sent to television viewers. The service provider group multiple digital programs to a total offer, the bouquet ( bouquet of French [ bukɛ ], " Strauss; covenant" ) and, where appropriate, manage the access rights ( pay TV).

Frequently the term Bouquet is confused with the related term transponder. However, a transponder is a physical grouping of multiple data streams on a single frequency band, a bouquet is a virtual grouping of services that can extend over several transponders.

In the analog television, each channel is occupied by a single program. Since the digital programs can be compressed and MPEG -coded, they need significantly less bandwidth (typically 2-12 Mbit / s, depending on the image quality) and it is possible to assign a single channel with multiple programs.
