Multiprotocol Encapsulation over ATM
Multiprotocol Encapsulation over ATM ( MPoA ) is a communications protocol for transporting IP traffic through efficient data encapsulation over an ATM -based network.
Since no LAN emulation takes place, can layer 3 protocols (according to the OSI model) directly the mechanisms of ATM use (eg bandwidth reservation ).
For DSL, ADSL or T -DSL, the protocol is used to make connections with several public IP addresses (or entire subnets ) are available. For this purpose, the PPPoE or PPPoA protocols are not able.
In the protocol, as well as LLC and VC-Mux bridged and routed between is distinguished.
