The Mumuye is the most important of the Adamawa languages in West Africa and is spoken in northeast Nigeria and Northwest Cameroon by the people Mumuye.
It is currently expected to language group of the Leko - Nimbari languages within the savannah languages language group. This one in turn to the Niger-Congo language family.
There are numerous dialects of Mumuye: Zinna, Dong, Yoro, Lankaviri, Gola ( Bajama ) Gongla, Kasaa, Saawa, Jalingo, Nyaaja, Jeng, Gnoore, Yaa, Sagbee, Shaari, Kugong, Mang, Kwaji, Meeka and Yakoko.
