Munakata, Fukuoka
Munakata (Japanese宗 像 市, -shi) is a city in Fukuoka prefecture in Japan.
Geography
Munakata is located west of Kitakyushu and northeast of Fukuoka.
History
The city was founded on April 1, 1981.
Attractions
- Munakata Shrine (宗 像 大 社, Munakata - taisha ) which consists of the three sub- shrines Hetsumiya (辺 津 宫) near the coast, Nakatsumiya (中 津 宫) on the offshore island of Ōshima and Okitsumiya (冲 津 宫) on the lying in the sea island Okinoshima, the may only be entered once a year by men.
