Background

By 2001, the Munich U- Bahn, trams and city buses in the city area were operated by Stadtwerke München and cross-subsidized by other sectors. Since this cross- subsidy was no longer permitted under EU law, the Munich Transport Company was hived off for the operation of the transport on 27 June 2001. This occurs towards the passengers on travel and transport industry, but rented this staff and trains by Stadtwerke on. Since these cost factors continue directly into municipal ownership (or in the Stadtwerke ) remained, the MVG can achieve a positive result.

While the corporate identity yet of MVV stood as a composite in the foreground, the MVG since its inception is increasingly emerging as an independent company in appearance and differs thereby as the S-Bahn from other companies in the traffic group from.

In 2011, the MVG had 522 million passengers.

Buses and Coaches

The MVG operates only bus routes in the urban area ( line numbers 50-199, vehicle color blue / white or blue-gray / aluweiß ); Lines in the counties of the network and those that cross the city limits ( line numbers over 200 ) were assigned by MVV regional, largely private, bus companies. These use either private or MVV color scheme (blue / green / white).

About 45 % of the performance of the urban bus routes are awarded by the MVG to private companies who use their own buses with their own personnel in order. The buses of private contractors are adjusted externally and from the interior (paint, design of the seats, etc.) to the buses MVG own. However, they are still easy to distinguish from the vehicles MVG own: MVG vehicles are equipped with a four-digit car number (eg 5312 ), which is mounted at several locations around and inside the bus. Private buses have - depending on the entrepreneur - a two-digit, three-digit or even no car number.
