Munda people

The Munda are an indigenous people in India. The Adivasi group comes from the Jharkhand region, but is also spread across the states of Bihar, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh and Orissa and parts of Bangladesh. The language of the Munda Mundari is from the family of Munda languages ​​, which belong to the Austro-Asiatic languages. At the same time they speak the language of the state in which they live.

Munda have their own natural religion called Sarna. They believe in a Supreme Being, called Sing Bonga ( means sun god). About a quarter of the Munda population, however, was evangelized and converted to Christianity. Your wedding and funeral rituals are based on ancient traditions. They are known as a performer in the folk dance drama Purulia Chhau.

The music of Munda is deeply rooted in the cultural tradition. Among the dances only play percussion instruments rhythm, while wind instruments and the spike fiddle banam in all musical areas, but are not used to accompany dances. A rare even in the Mundas and unusual for today's Indian music bar zither is the Tuila, which is regarded as virtually the last remnant of the early vinas as they were shown in the first millennium temple reliefs.
