Mundelein is a municipality ( with a status of "Village" ) in Lake County in the north east of the U.S. state of Illinois and a suburb of Chicago. In the census in 2010 had 31,064 inhabitants Mundelein.

Mundelein is located in the northern part of the Chicago metropolitan area.

Geography

Mundelein is located around 60 km north- west of the city of Chicago; the western shore of Lake Michigan is 17 km east of the village.

History

Before the arrival of European settlers lived on the territory of today's Indians from the tribe of Potawatomi. The first Europeans in the area were French fur traders who traded with the Potawatomi trade since the mid 17th century.

With Peter Shaddle came in early early 1835, the first permanent white settlers in the region around the present site Mundelein and built a log cabin. Other settlers were added and in particular with the increasing industrialization, the population grew rapidly.

In 1909, the place, who wore the meantime the names Mechanics Grove and Rockefeller, renamed Area.

1924 the management decided the resort, the place after George Mundelein ( 1872-1939 ), Archbishop of Chicago and founder of the Seminary College St., rename Mary's of the Lake in Mundelein.

Demographic data

According to the census in 2010 lived in Mundelein 31,064 people in 10,314 households. The population density was 1,339 inhabitants per square kilometer.

The racial the population was composed of 72.3 percent white, 1.5 percent African American, 0.7 percent Native American, 8.8 percent Asian and other ethnic groups; 2.6 percent were descended from two or more races. Regardless of ethnicity were 30.1 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
