Geography

Geographical location

The historic town is located in a loop of the Danube about 33 km southwest of Ulm, but has extended to both sides of the river.

Neighboring communities

The city is bordered to the north by the town of Ehingen, to the east by Rottenacker, to the south Unterstadion, Emerkingen and Hausen am Bussen, and to the west by Obermarchtal and Untermarchtal.

History

Finds from the Roman period indicate that the area of the present town Munderkingen was settled in late antiquity. From a continuous settlement until the early Middle Ages can not be assumed.

Munderkingen first time was mentioned in the year 792 in a document of the monastery of St. Gallen. The town charter was granted Munderkingen in 1230 by the Lords of Emerkingen. End of the 14th century, the Habsburgs Munderkingen pledged to the Steward of Waldburg. Traffic

Munderkingen is located on the Donautalbahn from Donaueschingen to Ulm. There is an hourly service to Ulm and Sigmaringen and a two -hour intervals to Tuttlingen, Donaueschingen and Neustadt (Black Forest). Munderkingen is connected to the Danube -Iller - Nahverkehrsverbund.

Public institutions

Danube Bridge

Old hospital

The Catholic parish church of St. Dionysius combines medieval Gothic buildings with changes from the time of the Renaissance and Baroque.
