Mundigak is an archaeological site in Afghanistan, some 55 km north- west of Kandahar. The local finds are dated to the earliest history of ancient Indian cultural area. It is rather associated with Harappa and Mohenjo- Daro in modern Pakistan, in conjunction, as with archaeological sites in Iran, although Neolithic finds are to be found at several sites throughout the ancient Indo -Iranian territory and continued settlement can be accepted.

The excavations in Afghanistan, especially in Mundigak showed the western extension of the Indus cultures.
