The Mundus AG was a holding company with the aim of production and marketing of bentwood furniture in Austria - Hungary.

History

The Austrian Mundus AG was founded with the participation of the Creditanstalt on July 15, 1907 by the Jewish merchant, Leopold Pilzer ( 1871-1959 ) from Galicia as a merger of several small producers of bentwood furniture. According to the Austrian Mundus AG short time was also later called by Pilzer a Hungarian company Mundus based in Budapest from life.

The Austrian Mundus AG summarized in establishing the following seven companies:

In 1914, Mundus took over the majority of shares in the company Jacob & Josef Kohn and saw the founding of the company Mundus Kohn AG. Due to the political changes after the end of the First World War, the Bentwood was in a difficult situation, and in 1919 the seat of the Mundus Kohn AG of Vienna was moved to Cieszyn. Finally it came 1922, to take over the Thonet AG and Thonet Mundus AG was lifted out of the baptism. However, the two well-known brands Thonet and Kohn have also continued to be used separately. The management of the Bugholzimperiums was now alone with Leopold Pilzer. He led a group with 20 manufacturing plants spread over the states of the former monarchy, as well as Germany and Austria, with over 10,000 employees.
