Mungu ibariki Afrika

Mungu ibariki Africa is the national anthem of Tanzania. The melody is that of the composed in 1897 by the South African national anthem Nkosi Enoch Mankayi Sontonga Sikelel ' iAfrika ( God Bless Africa), which is also the national anthem of Zambia as well as a part of the South African national anthem. The text in the official language Swahili is based on the original written by Sontonga.

The anthem has already been used in an almost identical version of the Republic of Tanganyika, but reference was in the second stanza nor taken on the former country name Tanganyika. After the union with Zanzibar to form the United Republic of Tanzania on 26 April 1964, the now valid text version came into force.
