The School of Political Science ( HfP ) is a university in Munich that offers exclusively the study of political science. It is a public corporation that is financed by the Bavarian state parliament. The HfP is no university in the strict sense and has as an institution sui generis, neither the right to award degrees, nor has its own teaching staff. The academic degree of a Diplomaticus scientiae politicae Universitatis ( Dipl. pol sc. Univ. ) Is awarded by the Ludwig- Maximilians- University Munich ( LMU). The teaching staff consists mainly of professors emeritus. The HfP was founded in 1950 and has its headquarters in Haslauer block ( Ludwig Strasse 8 ) in Munich Maxvorstadt.

The University of the policy is understood as a meeting between political theory and political practice. True to this motto lecture at the university in addition to professors of political science and member of parliament, representatives of business, government and various scientific disciplines.

The HfP was given the " in society, economy and science increasingly vocal criticism of the introduction of bachelor's and master's degrees from well- considered arguments in favor of the value of their degrees at the world-renowned university degree. " On request, the graduands will receive a written confirmation of the equivalence of a relevant university master degree. In the fall of 2011, the Scholl Institute of the LMU faced the HfP by the press no longer told to want to be responsible for the award of the diploma degrees. Then, a sub-committee was formed in 2012 by the Bavarian state parliament to a future concept. The inaugural meeting of the subcommittee " future concept for the School of Policy ( HfP ) Munich " 10 May 2012 took place on Thursday. The concept should be presented to the public on 27 February 2013. However, even details of the proposed amendments have been leaked: among other things to the university in " HfP - Bavarian School of Public Policy " be renamed.

History

The HfP not subject to the Bavarian Higher Education Act. This has historical reasons: The college was founded at the instigation of the U.S. occupation force after the Second World War with the aim of re-education or education for democracy. So the democracy in post-war Germany should be established. Initially, the university was established as a corporation under private law (date of incorporation: July 14, 1950). On October 27, 1970, she was by law a " institutionally autonomous institution at the University of Munich " (similar to an " An-Institut " of a university). Thus, it is a college that finds its legal basis in a separate, applicable only for her Higher Education Act (all other state and state- recognized universities in Bavaria are subject to the Bavarian Higher Education Act ). Although she is independent, the academic degrees are formally conferred by the University of Munich. Since 16 February 1981, it has the status of a public corporation. Since 1 January 2007, the HfP also has an independent right to award doctorates. The University of Munich adopt this in agreement with the School of Political own examination regulations and a doctorate regulations.

Since the end of 2011 smolders between the Scholl Institute at the University of Munich and the University of Munich policy ( HfP ) a hassle. Faculty of Social Sciences, LMU keeps the content of teaching and the staff of the HfP for outdated and wants to end the mandatory cooperation. Prior to the Bavarian state parliament has warned. However, the high school committee of the Bavarian Parliament sees need for reform and has therefore set up a sub-committee to reform the HfP. The results to be presented in autumn 2012. However, according to the will of all parliamentary groups in principle to the basic concept of HfP ( part-time study, open to people without high school diploma and integration of scientific approach) are retained.
