Municipal Demarcation Board

The Municipal Demarcation Board ( short MDB, German as " Committee to define the community boundaries " ) is an independent South African authority to define the boundaries of municipalities, districts and constituencies ( wards ). It has its headquarters in Pretoria, whose administration is also the only branch in the country.

The Municipal Demarcation Board has already provided for in Section 155 (paragraph 3) of the South African Constitution of 1996.

Your specific legal basis was given the authority to the Local Government: Municipal Demarcation Act (Act No. 27/1998. ) And the Local Government: Municipal Structures Act (Act No. 117/1998. ).

In addition to their legislative base are belong to other acts of the Constitutional Court.

The Municipal Demarcation Board consists of seven to 15 people, who are appointed by the President of South Africa for five years. Only the Chairman working full-time for the Board. There are other staff for supporting tasks.
