Municipalities of El Salvador

A municipality is a subunit as an administrative unit in El Salvador. It is therefore the administrative unit of the third order, by state, province ( department ). Municipalities are further subdivided into Cantons. The inhabitants of each municipality elect their mayor for a term of 3 years, with the possibility of re-election.
