Municipality of Gorenja Vas–Poljane

Gorenja vas - Poljane (German: " Baierdorf - Pölland " ) is a municipality in the region of Carniola (German: " Upper Carniola " ) in Slovenia.

In the overall community consisting of 73 villages and hamlets 7209 people live. The two eponymous main places Gorenja vas ( dt: Baierdorf ) and Poljane ( dt: Pölland ) nad Škofjo Loko have 1155 and 390 inhabitants. The municipality is located in the central portion of the Poljanska Valley. Some of the hamlets rise up to 1000 m altitude up.

Once belonged to the valley to rule Loka (German: " Bischoflaak "). By the end of the Habsburg Empire, the church belonged to the crown land of Carniola Poljane, the community was part of the judicial district Bischoflack and the District of Kranj.

Worth seeing in Gorenja vas the Church of St. John the Baptist. Origins date back to the 14th century. In 1623 it was mentioned for the first time.

The international master photographer Vlastja Simončič has opened the first Slovenian Photography Museum in Gorenja vas. The impressive museum goes back to the beginnings of photography.
