Municipality of Rogatec

Rogatec ( German: Rohitsch in Styria) is a municipality in the region Spodnja Lower Styria, Slovenia.

Population and location

In the overall community consisting of nine villages 3,207 people live. the capital Rogatec alone has 1,570 inhabitants. The municipality is located in southeastern part of Slovenia to the Croatian border. The river Sotla (German: Sattelbach ) forms the border. The Sotla ( German: Sattelbach ) arises in the district log.

History

In 1283 the patch is first mentioned as a market Rogatec. In the 14th and 15th centuries, the place is mentioned several times as a city. Probably because the village was surrounded by a wall and the castle Gornji Rogatec, which is now in ruins and the castle Strmol she looked like a small town. The city law Rogatec never received because it never reached the required population. But thanks to the limit position of the market town prospered.

Worth seeing

The castle was first mentioned in 1436 Strmol was extensively renovated in 1995 and now shines in new splendor.

Next to the castle is the largest open- air museum of Slovenia. Here life of 18 is shown to the 20th century realistic. In 1998, the museum complex was declared a national monument.
