Munro

Munro is the name of mountains in Scotland, the ft higher than 3000 ( 914.4 m) and the mountain peaks have a " degree of independence ". The autonomy of a summit is not precisely defined; but there were all the peaks with a relative height of at least 500 ft (152.4 m) was added to the list of Munros. A peak that is higher than 3000 ft, but where the necessary autonomy missing to be a Munro is referred to as a top. Currently, a total of 510 tops are recorded.

Origin of the name

The name goes back to Sir Hugh Munro, the first time in 1891 published his "Tables of the 3000 ft Mountains of Scotland ". The original list, which was never fully hiked by Munro himself ( when he died in 1919, he lacked two peaks ), has since been revised several times.

Under the latest revision of the list by the Scottish Mountaineering Club (SMC ) in September 2012, the Beinn a ' Chlaidheimh lost its status as a Munro. Corbetts

Donalds

Graham
