History

It was opened on 5 October 1930 and is thus the youngest major railway construction projects in Münster.

Reason for the construction of the bypass path was the sharp rise after the First World War freight in connection with the fact that the central station of Münster had no pure drive-through tracks for freight trains and such lack of space also could not be built.

Originally, the plan was also to build a two-sided marshalling yard ( approximately in the range between Dortmund -Ems Canal and Kaldenhofer way ), which should be connected via the bypass path to all major afferent routes to Muenster. However, was to circumvent web was then implemented for reasons of cost.

From the original plans, are some structural conditions today. Examples of this are designed for two tracks railway embankment, the very broad embankments in the area of the proposed marshalling yard and never used bridge abutment.

On May 25, 1968, the electrification of the line was completed.

Course

The bypass path begins in the operating station ( Bbf ) Mecklenbeck at the track pan - Eickelmann - Münster. It leads east around the city and ends in Bbf Sudmühle in the route Münster - Osnabrück. In addition, there is also the possibility of the route through the branch Hamm Lechtenberg - to drive Münster from the bypass path towards Sudmühle (or vice versa).

Mostly substances classified as main motorway bypass path is executed single track. Only the connection curve to the hammer route and the section about control center ( Üst ) Pleister - Bbf Sudmühle are twofold. The Bbf channel has three station tracks.

The track is completely without crossing built mainly in an embankment. Only in the section Bbf Mecklenbeck - Bbf channel it lies partially in a recess.
