MuPAD

MuPAD ( Multi Processing Algebra Data Tool ) is a computer algebra system. Originally developed by the MuPAD research group at the University of Paderborn, headed by Benno Fuchssteiner, since 1997 the further development of the company SciFace Software GmbH & Co. KG, Paderborn in cooperation with the MuPAD research group and partners in other domestic and foreign universities.

With the acquisition of the manufacturer SciFace MathWorks MuPAD is available only as part of the Symbolic Math Toolbox to MATLAB since the end of September 2008.

Previous versions

By the fall of 2005, there were variant MuPAD Light free for use in research and teaching. As a consequence of the closure of the Institute AutoMATH the University of Paderborn, where the MuPAD research group was located, MuPAD Light is no longer available, but only the paid version MuPAD Pro. The last version is 4.0.6, developed by SciFace.

MuPAD Pro offers

  • A computer algebra system for symbolic manipulation of formulas and to calculate with exact and symbolic variables,
  • Program packages for linear algebra, differential equations, number theory, statistics, functional programming, and many other areas,
  • An interactive graphics system (since January 2004 as the first computer algebra system with transparent surfaces in 3D), including animation,
  • Classic and verified arbitrary precision numerics,
  • A highly customized to mathematical expressions programming language that supports object-oriented, functional, and others programming.

Operation of the system is done by typing commands. Frequently used commands can be accessed directly by mouse click. MuPAD Pro offers a worksheet concept, which allows comparable to word processing systems, mathematical problems in MuPAD Pro to formulate, calculate, visualize in the form of embedded 2D/3D graphics and animations and documented. Previous commands can be modified and run again. MuPAD Pro Worksheets ( notebooks) can such a computational scheme can be recalculated on a button.

MuPAD Pro is used in science, in schools and in business. The applications range from simple term transformations and linear algebra (also over finite fields and other algebraic structures), to linear optimization, differential equations to numerical calculations. For the acceleration of individual sub- accounts MuPAD Pro can be extended with your own C routines. The integration of Java code is possible.
