Muravera

Muravera ( in Murera Sardo ) is a municipality in southeastern Sardinia, in the province of Cagliari with more than 5000 inhabitants.

Characteristics

Muravera is the most important place in the Sarrabus. Very famous is the cultivation of citrus fruits, making the hard citrus Sagra degli agrumi is celebrated every year in April. The coast of Muravera stretches over 30 km, with the long beaches of Foce Flumendosa, San Giovanni, Saline and up Colostrai. After the rocky coast reaches Capo Ferrato, where you will find the eight -kilometer-long beach of Costa Rei.

Position

The village is located about 67 km northeast of Cagliari, about four kilometers south of Villaputzu and four kilometers southeast of San Vito.

History

The first settlements in this region originated around 6000 BC An archeological finds those of Piscina Rei at Nuraghe Scala, the Nuraghe Asoru and the Nuraghe are interesting. Nearby you can visit the menhirs (Italian Perda fitta ) of Cuili Piras.

Due to its geographical location Muravera was affected by pirate raids. For this reason, Saracen towers were built around 1600 AD ( Torre delle Saline, Torre dei Dieci cavalli, Torre di Capo Ferrato ).

Economy

The coasts are home to three major fisheries in San Giovanni, Colostrai Feraxi.

Muravera attaches great importance to the craft, in the production of baskets, carpets and textiles. A tradition is the construction of launeddas, a 2900 years old Sardinian wind instrument. The landscape is widely used for the cultivation of citrus trees, grape vines and rice plants. Delicacies of this region are: homemade oil, cheese, wine, ham, bread and liqueurs such as the Limoncino and Mirto.

In the village there is a regional hospital for surgery, medicine, orthopedics, gynecology and radiology. In addition, ophthalmologists, dentists and dermatologists exist. There is also a nursery, a primary school, a secondary school, a secondary school, a trade high school, a secondary school for surveyors, a hotel school and an agricultural school.

In the summer months Muravera is dominated by tourism, especially since close to numerous beaches and tourist facilities are located.

Tourism

The tourism season opens with the " Sagra Villa Ducale ". The first festival was organized in February 1961. The mid-2010s were the occasion of the feast house walls painted with murals by local artists ( murals ), which are intended to represent the history of the place. These murals can be seen running through the whole place. Also during this festival the historical life is trying to match on Etnotraccas.
