Murdoch Mysteries

Murdoch Mysteries is a Canadian police drama that is produced for the Canadian Citytv stations since 2007. It is based on the novel series Detective Murdoch by Maureen Jennings and acts of the Canadian Detective William Murdoch, the 1890s works in Toronto, Ontario. In Canada, it launched 20 January 2008 at Citytv.

Murdoch Mysteries follows the police Detective William Murdoch, who in the Canadian city of Toronto with advanced methods at the time, including taking fingerprints, monitoring, and blood tests include, solves crimes in the 1890s. As he so his time is far ahead he cooked up repeatedly with colleagues from other stations and especially his immediate supervisor Inspector brackish Reid together. William is assisted in solving his cases from the doctor Julia Ogden and his still quite inexperienced colleague Constable Crabtree.

Broadcast

The first broadcast in Canada began on January 20, 2008 at the local station Citytv. After thirteen episodes broadcast the first season was completed on 13 April 2008. The broadcast of the second season took place between 10 February and 27 May 2009, the third from 14 March to 13 June 2010 and the fourth steadily until 31 August 2011. Despite rising from 7 June attendances gave the station Citytv announced in September 2011 not to produce another season more after the fifth season. Two months later it was announced that the station CBC will take over the show after the fifth season and can produce a sixth season. The broadcast of the fifth season is scheduled from 6 June 2012.

In the UK, the first season of 19 February has been shown to May 20, 2008 by the transmitter alibi. During the broadcast of the second was parallel to Canada from February to May 2009 began the third already one month before Canada on February 16, 2010. This was completed in May 2010, before the fourth season between February 15 and May 10 was seen in 2011. The broadcast of the fifth season took place from 28 February to 22 May 2012.

Internationally, the series is broadcast by the station channel 9 in Italy by Rai 3, and by the Russian broadcaster TVI among others in France from the channel France 3, in Turkey from Digiturk, in Australia by the local 13th Street offshoot in Sweden. So far, there is no German -language broadcasting, neither in Germany nor in Austria or Switzerland.

A DVD release of the first season with the Region Code 1 was released on 16 June 2009. Publication in the UK with the region code 2 and in Australia with the region code 4 was released on 9 February and 26 June 2009. Season II appeared each on May 4, 2010 in the U.S., on February 15, 2010 in the United Kingdom and on February 10, 2011 in Australia. The third season was May 3rd the U.S. and on February 9, 2011 in Australia in the trade. In the UK, no special third season, but on 30 August 2010 appeared only the first three seasons as Komplettbox. There, the fourth season was released on May 23, 2011. In the U.S. and Australia, the fourth season was released on 29 May and 6 June, 2012.

On Blu -ray different seasons of the series have been published in the U.S. alone. 3 May 2011 appeared the third, on 17 April 2012, the first and on May 29, 2012, the fourth season.

Awards and nominations

In Canada, the series was well received by the critics, it was in the years 2008 to 2011 a total of eight nominations from the Directors Guild of Canada, including the best drama series and some in the creative categories like production design, sound editing and directing. Finally they win but could only standout of the sound editing in a television series. Considerations found the 2008 and 2009 series also in the most important TV award in Canada, the Gemini Award, by their total of 15 nominations, of which she ultimately won two. For the Young Artist Awards 2009 Jesse Bostick for his guest role in the episode Child's Play ( Season 1, Episode 10 ) was nominated for an award.
