Murid

The term Murid (Arabic مريد, the wills ', plural Murīdūn مريدون ) has different meanings:

  • In Sufism, thus is referred to the novice or adept a mystical brotherhood. He is led to initiation of a sheikh, murshid or Pīr, which must recognize him as his disciple. The name of the Sufi brotherhood of Muridiyya in Senegal is derived from the term.
  • In the history of Portugal and Spain are as Muridun the followers of the Sufi Ibn Qasi referred, the allied in the fight against the Almoravids with the Almohads.
