Murlo

Murlo is a village with 2392 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Siena. The small community is part of the Tuscany.

Geography

The site extends over 115 km ². It is located about 20 km southeast of Siena and 70 km south-east of Florence on the Arbia and in Val di Merse.

At its districts include Casciano, Bishop's, Bagnaia, Befa, Casanova, Fontazzi, Lupompesi, Miniera di Murlo, Montepescini, Poggiobrucoli and Poggiolodoli.

The neighboring municipalities are Buonconvento, Civitella Paganico ( GR), Montalcino, Monteroni d' Arbia, Monticiano and Sovicille.

Murlo is located in the ancestral homeland of the Etruscans. Geneticist at the Turin biologists and evolutionary scientists Alberto Piazza and Etruscologists suspect that it is the inhabitants of the village - genetically speaking - could be the last living or to direct descendants of the ancient Etruscans.
