Mūrmuiža

Mūrmuiža ( German: Gemauerthof ) is a town in northern Latvia and center of the municipality and the county Kauguri Beverina ( Latvian: Beverīnas novads ).

History

The town formed around the estate Gemauerthof. In some cases, the area belonged to Valmiera. The Manor House is a Zenta maurina Museum.

After the administrative reform of 2009, the three municipalities Trikāta, Brenguļi and Kauguri joined together to Beverīnas novads.

Trivia

On July 16, 1705, the Battle of Gemauerthof took place at a same place in Semgallen place, a battle of the Great Northern War between the armies of the Swedish King Karl XII. and the army of the Czar of Russia Peter the Great.
