Murray Chandler

Murray Graham Chandler ( born April 4, 1960 in Wellington, New Zealand ) is a British Chess Champion with New Zealand roots.

Life

Murray Chandler won at the turn of 1975/76, when 15 - year-old, the first time the championship of New Zealand (together with Ortvin Sarapu ). In 1976 he was second in the U17 World Cup in 1977 and was awarded the title of International Master.

He represented his native country at the Chess Olympiads from 1976 to 1980, settled in the 1980s in England. He played at the Olympic Games 1982 to 1992 under the English colors and culminated with the team in 1984, 1986 and 1988 second place. With the English team he also participated in the European Team Championships in 1983 and 1999 and at the World Team Championships in 1985 and 1989. Since 2008, Chandler is playing again for New Zealand and performed with the New Zealand team at the 2008 Chess Olympiad in Dresden.

In 1983 he became Grand Master in 1984, he played in London at the competition USSR against the rest of the world for the world team. At Chandler's most important tournament successes include victories in London ( Lloyds ) 1979, Brighton 1981, Hastings 1986/87 ( shared with Jonathan Speelman, Bent Larsen and Smbat Lputjan ), Blackpool (Zone Tournament ) 1990 and Queenstown (New Zealand ) 2006 ( this international tournament determined at the same time the master of New Zealand). After 1976 and 2006, he was in 2008 in Auckland for the third time New Zealand champion.

Chandler played in the chess Bundesliga 1980-1989 for the Hamburg SK ( in which he was reported in the 1989/90 season, but no competition played ) from 1990 to 2003 for the Solinger SG 1868, with whom he 1997 German team champion been. In the British Four Nations Chess League ( 4NCL ) Chandler played in the season 1993/ 94 for the Barbican Chess Club, 1994-1999 for the crew of the British Chess Magazine, whose editor, he was from 1991 to 1999, and from 1999 to 2009 for The ADs ( 2000-2002 Beeson Gregory ), which resulted from the merger of the teams of the British Chess Magazine and index -IT.
