Murray County (Georgia)

The Murray County is a county located in the U.S. state of Georgia in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Chatsworth.

Geography

The County is located in northern Georgia, the southern border of Tennessee and is about 90 km from the West Alabama away. It has an area of 892 square kilometers, of which six square kilometers of water surface, and borders clockwise to the following counties: Fannin County, Gilmer County, Gordon County and Whitfield County

History

Murray County was formed on December 3, 1832 from parts of Cherokee County. It was named after Thomas Walton Murray, a spokesman for the House of Representatives in Georgia. The mission of the Moravian Church among the Cherokees was in Spring Place by 1801 1838.

Historical buildings

In Chatsworth is the historic Wright Hotel (also known as Chatsworth Hotel). The 1909 finished guest house is located in the East Market Street at number 201, and was accepted as a historical monument with the number 82,002,456 on 17 June 1982 by the National Register of Historic Places.
