Murray County (Oklahoma)

Murray County is a county located in the state of Oklahoma in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Sulphur.

Geography

The County is located in south-central Oklahoma, is about 70 km away from Texas and has an area of ​​1101 square kilometers, of which 17 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Pontotoc County, Johnston County, Carter County and Garvin County.

History

Murray County was formed on 16 July 1907 as original county of Chickasaw country. It was named after William H. Murray, a president of the Constituent Assembly ( " Constitunional Convention " ) and later governor of Oklahoma.
