Murray Dowey

Albert Murray Dowey ( born January 3, 1926 in Toronto, Ontario ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender. At the Olympic Winter Games in 1948 he won the gold medal as a member of the Canadian national team.

Career

Murray Dowey began his career as a hockey goalie at the Birch Cliff Midgets in the Junior Championship Toronto Hockey League ( Tohl ) and played in 1944 for the Toronto Tip Top Tailors. In addition, he completed a game for the Toronto Marlboros of the Ontario Junior Hockey Association ( JOHA ). In 1945, he played for the Toronto Army Daggers parallel from the Senior Ontario Hockey Association ( SOHA ) and the Toronto Shamrocks Army from the Tohl. In 1946 he returned to the Tip Top Tailors.

From 1946 to 1948 Dowey was at the Toronto Barker in the Tohl between the posts. After the Winter Olympics in 1948, he returned for a year to the Toronto Barker before he spent one season at their league rivals Toronto Staffords.

Internationally

For Canada Dowey took part in the Winter Olympics 1948 in St. Moritz, where he won the gold medal with his team. During the tournament, he had a Gegentorschnitt of 0.62 per game. Was better since then no other goalkeeper at the Winter Olympics.
