Murray Weidenbaum

Murray Lew Weidenbaum ( born February 10, 1927 in Bronx, New York City; † March 20, 2014 in Clayton, Missouri) was an American economist and university professor, both Assistant Secretary of the Treasury and Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers had.

Life

Willow tree studied post-school economics at City College of New York and acquired there in 1948 with a Bachelor of Arts (BA). A subsequent post-graduate studies at Columbia University, he finished in 1949 with a Master of Arts ( MA), before he received in 1958 a Philosophiae Doctor ( Ph.D.) from Princeton University.

Since 1964, he held a professorship at Washington University in St. Louis and was there from 1966 to 1969 Head of the Department of Economics. Later, he was from 1969 to 1971 Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Finance ( Assistant Secretary of the Treasury ) where he was responsible for economic policy. He then returned to Washington University in 1975 and founded the Center for the Study of American Business, which was renamed in 2001 in honor of him in The Weidenbaum Center on the Economy, Government, and Public Policy.

In 1981 he was Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers and as such until 1982, one of the closest advisors of President Ronald Reagan. Then he was in the reign of Reagan still from 1983 to 1989 a member of the President's Economic Policy Advisory Board, a further advisory body to the U.S. president on economic issues.

Teaching and other features

In addition, he took up teaching at Washington University again and was there last holder of the Edward Mallinckrodt Department and honorary chairman of the Weidenbaum Center for the Study of American Business. At times, he was also Chairman of the Commission appointed by the U.S. Congress to the consideration of the trade deficit ( U.S. Trade Deficit Review Commission ).
