Murtal District

The district Mur is a political district in the Austrian state of Styria. The district capital is Jews castle. The area of the district is 1675.38 km ²; the population of 73 343 (1 January 2013). Mur is the second largest district in terms of area of Styria, in relation to its inhabitants the eighth largest.

It is bordered to the north by Liezen, to the east of Leoben, Graz environment and Voitsberg, to the south by the districts of Wolfsberg and Sankt Veit an der Glan in Carinthia and in the west on the Murau.

The district shortcuts at the license plate is Mt. Features with this identifier were issued from 1 July 2012 for new and re-registration.

History

The district Mur Valley got its start in one of the Styrian provincial government under Governor Franz Voves ( SPÖ) and his deputy Hermann Schützenhöfer (ÖVP ) carried out reform with effect from 1 January 2012.

After the state election held in 2010, there was a so-called " partnership for reform ". Should be reduced in the course of these reforms in politics and state administration, merged with the municipalities and the number of deputies to the parliament of Styria, the government parties also agreed to a merger of the two districts Jews castle and Knittel field.

In the former district capital Knittelfeld a citizen service center for frequently requested business cases ( driving license, passport, etc.) has been established, further remains there the forest service for the former district Knittel field. Moreover, in Knittel field, the social department of the bra, the district school board and the district police command, all three responsible for the entire district Mur valley their headquarters

Name

The decisive factor for the choice of name for the district, which is named for the first time in Austria to a region, was a proposal by the initiative " force. The Mur ", the head of the Chamber of Commerce and the chairman of the Mur Mur Valley holiday region, which had been sent a joint letter in July 2011 to the provincial government. The term is, however, geographically imprecise and was therefore controversial. Another proposed name, Aichfeld, which was already used by some companies would have Murau excluded. Jews castle and Knittel field were 1868-1946 also united in one district, then known as Jews castle.

The district Mur is divided into 38 municipalities, including four cities and seven market towns. The population figures are from January 1, 2013.
