Musa al-Kadhim

Musa ibn Dascha ʿ far al - Kazim (Arabic موسى بن جعفر الكاظم, DMG Mūsā b Ǧa ʿ far al - Kazim, . Born November 8, 745 in Medina; † September 1 799 in Baghdad ) was the seventh Imam according to the beliefs of Twelver Shias ( Imami ) and thus a direct descendant of the Prophet Mohammed. The period of his Imamate was 35 years.

Musa al - Kazim was born during the power struggles between the Umayyad and Abbasid. He was only four years old when Abu al - Abbas as- Saffah ascended the throne as the first Abbasid caliph. After the assassination of his father Jafar as- Sadiq under the reign of the Caliph al - Mansur he was in the year 765, in the opinion of the majority of Shiites whose rightful successor as Imam. Other Shiites, known as Ismailis, however, saw in his brother Ismail ibn Jafar the rightful successor and the seventh Imam, which had a new divide in the group result.

Under the reign of Harun al - Rashid, he was imprisoned and poisoned after several years of captivity. He is together with his grandson, the future Imam Muhammad at- Taqi, in al- Kazimiyya, a suburb named after him in the northeast of Baghdad, buried.
