Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains

One of the oldest grape varieties at all and is in numerous types before.

Muscat, Muscat blanc à petits grains French, is a very old and high-quality, globally widespread white wine grape variety with intense, complex bouquet of nutmeg. The berry is small to medium in size and of a yellowish green to golden color.

In Germany it is no longer as common as it is sensitive to frost with a penchant for coulure, medium and late maturing botrytisanfällig; ( area under vines approximately 174 hectares in 2008). In bad years, the acid may turn out hard and the bouquet dominant. In such cases, the wine is ideal for blending with Riesling, Sylvaner or Pinot Blanc. The same applies to Switzerland, where 49.4 hectares was charged. (2007, Source: Office fédéral de l'agriculture OFAG )

In warmer or hot regions, such as Italy, France ( 7,634 hectares in 2007), Spain, Portugal ( for example, the Moscatel de Setúbal), Hungary, Bulgaria, Algeria, Argentina, and Chile, he brings forth excellent lusciously sweet Muscat wine or spicy dessert wines. It is one of the grapes used for the production of the famous Tokaj wine. In South Africa, it is an important part of Constantia. In general, the wine is light and is characterized by a strong nutmeg bouquet.

The varietal is also very suitable as a table grape.
