Muschampia leuzeae

Muschampia leuzeae is a butterfly of the family of Skipper ( Hesperiidae ).

Features

The forewing length is 15 mm. The dark gray top has strong resemblance to that of Muschampia proto. On the fore wings there is a very large and rectangular Diskalfleck. On the hind wings a few bright spots can be seen. The underside is basically light gray and on the fore wings brownish doused with white spots. On the hind wings there is a regular and complete, but narrow Diskalbinde and indistinct bright Submarginalflecke.

Geographic occurrence and habitat

Muschampia leuzeae is located exclusively in Algeria and can be found in dry, flower-rich areas. The species occurs from 1200 to 2000 m above MSL.

Way of life

The moths fly from may and july a generation. The caterpillars feed on fire herbs ( Phlomis ).
