Musée Picasso

The Musée Picasso is one of the most important museums of Paris. It is located in the Marais district, the Hôtel Salé in the 3rd arrondissement at 5 rue de Thorigny. By mid- 2014, the museum will be fully renovated and is therefore closed.

History

The museum has about 250 works by the artist Pablo Picasso from all periods of his life, especially paintings and sculptures on display. The museum collections include the former private art collection with paintings by Picasso, among others, Georges Braque, Paul Cézanne, Henri Matisse, Joan Miró, Amedeo Modigliani and Henri Rousseau. These exhibits have the French government handed over to his heirs to pay in this way, the inheritance tax. This was made possible by a law dating from 1968, according to some sources was this law - enacted primarily with the aim to secure some works by the artist for the French state - still alive Picasso.

Since 23 August 2009, the exhibition hall is closed for several years. Reason are remodeling work in which reshaped the museum rooms and today's safety standards should be adjusted. The current safety standards are particularly adapted. During closing, the exhibits in other museums wander around the world.
